Lesson 1: When To Sign Up

Let's talk about when to do what.

• If you're turning 65 you have a 7 month window to sign up. The 3 months before/after your birthday and the month of.

• Medicare always starts on the first of the month.

• If you're working past 65, people typically only sign up for Part A when they turn 65. Then start the Part B process 3 months before retirement. You need two forms you fill out CMS-40 form. Your employer fills out CMS-564 form. These forms go to Social Security.

• If you're collecting disability for 24 months you are automatically enrolled in Medicare.

• You are only automatically enrolled if you start collecting Social Security before age 65.
